NEWPORT HARBOR HOTEL & MARINA
ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF
$4 MILLION DOLLAR RENOVATION
For Immediate Release
April 14, 2003
(Newport, RI) — The Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina’s
management announced that a $4 Million Dollar Renovation, which began in November 2002,
is now
complete. “We
are very excited about our property’s improvements this past winter. Essentially,
we have a brand new guestroom product, as well as new guestroom corridors and a newly
constructed Marina Deck, which will allow us to increase our outdoor Catering business
and offer a tremendous waterview for all our guests,” said Ted Schroeder, CHA,
the hotel’s General Manager.
The new guestrooms, designed by hotel interior designers Benjamin Brothers, Inc.,
feature an all-new upscale décor. “We wanted the new guestrooms to have
more of a Newport feel, reflecting the hospitality and maritime heritage of the world-class
destination that we’re in,” said Schroeder. As such, the new guestrooms
have all new furnishings, some of which include hand-carved pineapples, the internationally-recognized
symbol of hospitality. The new décor’s color scheme consists of many navy
and gold hues, popular shades in Newport’s rich sailing history. All guestroom
corridors were also renovated with new carpeting, wallcovering, ceilings, lighting
and artwork. Also, the popular Marine Suite meeting room, which offers views of the
harbor and a deck for outdoor dining, received new carpeting and valances.
The final portion of the renovation recently completed was the construction of a new
19 foot wide harborfront walkway and Marina Deck. “The entire waterfront side
of the hotel had a concrete decking and we replaced it with a new wood decking, which
gives it a much more inviting look, kind of like a boardwalk, and also expands our
opportunities to host Catering functions on the waterfront. Our customers are really
excited about it,” stated Jim Corr, the hotel’s Chief Engineer, who along
with Schroeder, managed the project.
